About the Commission

The committee was 1st established as the Idaho Territorial Centennial Commission, on April 26, 1960, with G. Nicholas Ifft serving as the Commission's 1st chairman. Mr. Jack Alvord, who was appointed to the Commission April 26, 1960, did much of the research of the history of the original Fort Hall and was instrumental in all aspects of the construction of the replica. Upon Mr. Alvord's death, the Idaho Territorial Commission was informally re-established as the Fort Hall Replica Commission, 1st meeting on March 7, 1980.

The Commission was formalized by the passage of Ordinance number 2367 in June 1991, and revised by Ordinance number 2525, with a membership of 15-18 members, at least 2 of whom shall be Native Americans. Members serve 4-year terms.
