The Pocatello Fire Department, American Red Cross of Greater Idaho, and local partners will be installing free smoke alarms in Pocatello and they need your help.
Saturday, November, 7, 2015 the coalition aims to install roughly 150 alarms and volunteer help is needed for advance teams, logistics support, alarm installers, and disaster safety educators.
“According to the National Fire Prevention Association, 60 percent of fire deaths happen from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms,” said Kim Stouse, Community Relations/Education Specialist with the Pocatello Fire Department. “Many of these deaths could have been prevented just with having a properly functioning alarm.”
Volunteers are asked to sign up online at alarminstallpocatello.eventbrite.com, or contact Rusty Devereaux with the American Red Cross at 208-479-3231 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteers who’ve already registered are asked to meet at City Hall, 911 North 7th Avenue, at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 for initial instructions. Organizers would also like to remind volunteers that this is an outdoor event and to dress appropriately.
