Local eighth-grader Tia Smith-Buckskin is the latest student chosen to serve as Pocatello’s Mayor for a Day.
Smith-Buckskin, a student at Hawthorne Middle School, was selected after Principal Heidi Kessler asked teachers to nominate a pupil for the office and Tia received the most nods. Active in several activities at the school, Smith-Buckskin works as an aide in the office, plays lacrosse, and also A-team basketball.
Mayor for a Day Smith-Buckskin’s term will begin the morning of May 6 and end that afternoon. Her term also marks the end of the Mayor for a Day program for the 2015-16 school year. The program will return for the 2016-17 school year in September.
