Thursday, Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter officially selected Pocatello City Councilman Craig Cooper to fill a vacant Bannock County Commissioner seat.
“I appreciate the time I’ve had to serve the city of Pocatello,” said Cooper. “I haven’t always voted with the majority and I hope I’ve been a voice for the conservative citizens of Pocatello. I appreciate the trust citizens placed in me.”
His appointment to the commission will leave an empty seat with the City Council. Mayor Brian Blad is charged now with selecting a replacement for Cooper and will be announcing more on the selection process in the near future.
Included below are statements from the Mayor and Council on their time spent serving with Councilman Cooper.
Mayor Brian Blad“It’s been a pleasure serving with Councilman Cooper. I wish him the best of luck at Bannock County and we have some tough shoes to fill. Craig’s experience in the public and private sector have been invaluable.”
Council President Steve Brown“I am grateful to have someone who has the City’s point of view go back to the County. I’ll miss him and our lively conversations but look forward to an even stronger relationship with Bannock County.”
Councilman Roger Bray“It will be good to have a former council member on the commission that understands the challenges the City faces.”
Councilman Jim Johnston“Craig Cooper has been a delight to work with on the Pocatello City Council. Craig attends our meetings prepared to act; he thinks about what he is voting on and has strong convictions as he represents the citizens of our city.”
Councilman Gary Moore“Our loss is the County’s gain.”
Councilman Michael Orr“I’m going to miss him and wish him the best of luck at the County”
