Buchanan Named Human Resources Director for City of Pocatello

Pocatello Human Resources Director Heather Buchanan

The City of Pocatello has a new Human Resources Director. At the August 4 meeting, the Pocatello City Council confirmed Mayor Brian Blad’s appointment of Heather Buchanan to the position. Buchanan was promoted from her position as one of the City’s Human Resources Consultants. “I am excited about this new opportunity and look forward to working with a great team,” said Buchanan. “I’m excited to help the City and its employees navigate employer/employee relations.” As the City’s Human Resources Director, Buchanan is tasked with directing all efforts of the Human Resources Department, developing personnel policies, and ensuring the City complies with federal and state statutes regarding employment law. “Heather has a great background and is well prepared to fill this very important position,” said Mayor Brian Blad. “Employees are the heart of any business or organization and I’m confident that Heather will do good things for the City and its workers.” Previously, Buchanan worked at Idaho State University in the Information Technology and Human Resources Departments. She also spent time in the Human Resources Department at ON Semiconductor. Buchanan is originally from American Falls and received a Bachelor of Arts in English, as well as a Masters of Public Administration, from Idaho State University. Buchanan steps into the role previously held by Kim Smith. Smith retired earlier this year.
