Splash Dance for Dogs Returns September 17

Splash Dance for Dogs

The Ross Park Aquatic Complex will be going to the dogs, literally.

Saturday, September 17 the facility will host the 3rd Annual Splash Dance for Dogs with the help of Pocatello Animal Services and Friends of the Pocatello Animal Shelter. The fundraiser will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and allows the area’s four-legged friends to enjoy the complex, just like their two-legged counterparts.

“It’s amazing to see so many dogs playing and having fun at the same time,” said Kim Velman, Volunteer Coordinator for Pocatello Animal Services. “Once one dives in, it’s guaranteed that others will follow.”

The entry fee is $10 per dog and the money raised helps fund programs through Pocatello Animal Services.

“It helps pay for things like medical emergencies through the ‘Second Chance Fund’ and the ‘Katie’s Old Friends’ program that helps pay part of the adoption fee for dogs six-years-old and older,” explained Velman.

Last year, nearly 200 dogs took to the water.

Officials ask that if you and your pet attend the Splash Dance to adhere to the following guidelines:

- Make sure your dog is wearing a collar and proper identification
- Keep your dog on a leash until they are in the pool fenced area
- Make sure your dog is current on their vaccinations and check with your veterinarian on what vaccinations your dog should have to be safe
- Bring your dog’s life jacket if they use one and some tennis balls if your dog likes to play with them but remember that dogs assume that you’ll share with everyone
- Bring your family, lawn chairs, sun hat and suntan lotion and have some fun with us
