Enrollment Open for “Citizen Police Academy”

If you’ve ever wondered what a day in the life of a police officer is like, now is your chance find out.  

Currently, the Pocatello Police Department is taking applications for its Citizen Police Academy. The seven-week course will teach 30 residents about crime scene investigations, evidence collection, patrol procedures, police driving techniques, firearms training, and more.

“We want to show residents how complex, challenging, and rewarding the work of an officer can be,” said Captain Roger Schei. “The classes are interactive and hands-on so they are a lot of fun for residents.”

Classes will begin Tuesday, April 11 and conclude May 23. The classes will be held Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. plus, Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to noon and Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. Graduation will be at the end of the last class May 23.

Citizen Police Academy students are selected through an application process and will undergo a background check. The deadline to apply is April 7.
