PHS, HHS Classes of 1971 to Present Granite Bench to City of Pocatello

Former students of two Pocatello high schools are giving back to the community.

Alumni from the Pocatello and Highland High School Classes of 1971 banded together to purchase a granite bench for the City of Pocatello. The idea for the bench began during the combined 45th class reunion of the two schools. Once the seat was completed, the classmates began looking for a spot to place the bench. Eventually, the group found a home for the bench on North Main Street, near where the Chief Theatre sign now stands.

“Many of us spent a lot of time in Old Town, specifically at the Chief Theatre, during our formative years,” said Councilman and Highland High School Class of 1971 graduate Michael Orr. “It’s fitting that the bench will sit where the Chief once stood, as it’s the site of so many great memories.”

The bench will be officially presented to the City by the classes this Friday during Old Town Pocatello’s First Friday Art Walk at 5:30 p.m.

The design, engraving, and installation of the bench was donated to the classes by Thomas Marble and Granite.
