After the discovery of a fiber optic cable set the project back, the effort to replace the Lewis Street Bridge will get underway today.
During construction, the bridge will be closed and vehicle and pedestrian traffic detoured to the crossing at West Center Street via Hayes Avenue and Johnson Avenue. A map of the road closures can be found at bit.ly/2kxyeg3.
Construction is scheduled to take four months to complete and officials apologize for any inconvenience the work may cause. Due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances, the work schedule may be delayed. The estimated cost of the project is $1.3 million with the City contributing approximately $99,800. The remaining balance of the project is being paid with federal funding sources.
The current bridge was built back in 1948 and spans 61-feet.
