PLANNING SERVICES DIVISION
The Planning Services Division is charged with overseeing the orderly growth and development of Pocatello. Some of the principal functions of the department include:
Collection of data and the presentation of reports or studies pertinent to a multitude of land use decisions.
Preparation and administration of the City's Comprehensive Plan and appropriate land use ordinances (e.g., the Zoning, Sign & Subdivision Ordinances).
Staff support and coordination with the following organizations for the betterment of the community:
Pocatello City Council
Community Development Commission (CDC)
Historic Preservation Commission (HPC)
Site Plan Review Committee (SPRC)
Pocatello Development Authority (PDA)
Bannock Planning Organization (BPO)
Old Town Pocatello (OTP)
Hearing Examiners (HE)
Portneuf Greenway Foundation(PGF)
Enforcement of all codes related to land use, signage, and property maintenance in Pocatello Coordination of enforcement of the Zoning Ordinances with Pocatello Police Department Code Enforcement Officers.
Completion of special projects as may be assigned by the City Council or Mayor.
Fees associated with processing land use applications are set annually by resolution of the City Council.

Associate Planners are responsible for:
- Liaison to the Community Development Commission
- Liaison to the Hearing Examiners
- Conditional Use Permits
- Variances
- Planned Unit Developments (as assigned)
- Sign Exceptions
- Zoning Determinations
- Long Range Planning (as assigned)
- Subdivisions (as assigned)
- Annexations (as assigned)
- Code Enforcement (as assigned)
Assistant Planners are responsible for:
- Liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission
- Residential Development Review
- Home Occupation Certificate Review
- Daycare Zoning Review
- Zoning Determinations
- Long Range Planning (as assigned)
- Sign Permit Review
- Code Enforcement (as assigned)
- Liaison to Open Space Committee
