Outdoor Recreation

  1. Adult Rock Climbing (Intermediate) Begins

    August 17, 2017, 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Ross Park

Trial and error is no way to learn to climb. This course is designed for adults who want to be able to set up their own climbs, tie the proper knots and belay with confidence. Equipment is provided but you are welcome to bring your own and learn to use it. Many adults with kids in our youth programs take this course so they can take their family out safely after our programs end. Student to instructor to ratios are low for maximum take home. Intermediate climbing takes basic techniques and begins to apply them to more varied situations.

  2. Backpacking in the Tetons

    August 18, 2017 - August 20, 2017

Take a long weekend during peak flower bloom to backpack the spine of the Teton Range. We start at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and take a Tram ride up to save 4100’ of climbing. This head start makes the 28-mile trail lose elevation overall and make only one major ascent at hurricane pass. The route is still rigorous but achievable to someone with basic fitness. The fee includes transportation, park entrance, sanitation supplies, water filters, food canisters and group navigation and emergency supplies. It does not include food, personal equipment or a tram pass. The pre-trip is a chance to discuss equipment, food, and logistics and meet your fellow participants. Participants should expect to carry 30-40 pounds for 10 miles a day. Responsible teens with appropriate expectations are welcome. Pre-trip meeting: July 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the Community Recreation Center
