As a service to all candidates running for city office the City Clerk poses four questions to each candidate to inform voters of the candidate's positions and priorities. Please see below for both the questions and answers provided by the candidate.

* Please note: Each candidate's answer to the list of questions is verbatim and has not been modified or changed.

MAYORAL CANDIDATES

PAUL SHEPARD

1. Why are you interested in running for office for the City of Pocatello?

The 2 reasons for which I'm running are simple. First the rights of all Pocatello citizens, no matter what walks of life, everyone needs to be heard for their concerns and safety! Second is the economy of Pocatello, it needs to grow and expand! We have a very skilled workforce here in Pocatello, and they shouldn't have to work for low wages to try to support their families! I feel I can make a difference, I believe in common sense and hard work I can earn the trust and respect from the great citizens of Pocatello.

2. In your opinion, what is the major issue facing Pocatello?

My opinion it's the economy, we need to get behind our local shops, and also attract high paying jobs. Pocatello is a great place to live!

2a. How would you address the issue you just described?

Pocatello is a great place to raise a family. In a few hours you can be in Boise, Salt Lake City, or Jackson, WY. In a few minutes you can be up in the mountains, or on a lake playing. I would work closely with Bannock Development Corp. and other investors to attract new and big businesses. I'd be very aggressive in our search to get what Pocatello deserves. And in the long run Pocatello will be happy with the outcome and more customers for our local stores!

3. If elected, what will your first priority be?

First day I will let the world know, Pocatello is open for business! Let's get rolling on the issues and I can start earning the trust and respect from all my new bosses, the voters, the citizens are the strongest voice in local, state, and federal government. We need to move towards the future, and with the help of the voters on November 5 th , we can start achieving this. Thank you Pocatello!
