The League of Women Voters hosted a candidate forum on October 24, 2011. Candidates for City Council Seats #1, #2 and #3 were asked a series of questions. Video of the forum and candidate responses can be viewed below.
Candidate Introductions
Question 1: "Pocatello has a reputation for not being business friendly a perception that seems to be changing, what will you do to make this city appealing to business? And what will you do to eliminate city regulations that stifle business?"
Question 2: "Many candidates claim that we need to cut expenses and costs, can you give some specific examples of where cuts need to be made?"
Question 3: "How are you planning to vote on the Ambulance Levy and why? And if the Ambulance Levy fails will it effect home insurance rates?"
Question 4: "Is the City of Pocatello's budget adequately funded, over, or under funded?"
Question 5: "The brain drain of young people from Pocatello has been mentioned, how do you plan to combat this problem using existing resources and or new ideas?"
Question 6: "Yes or no, did you file a campaign disclosure report?"
Question 7: "What is your stance on TIF districts? How does the TIF retirement benefit the taxpayers?
Question 8: "What is your stance on the Greenway Project and using eminent domain? Regarding the Greenway would you agree to make use of eminent domain if it were the only way to complete the project?"
Question 9: Who is your inspiration in becoming involved in City government?
