Construction on the School Zone Traffic Safety Improvement Project began in June 2011 and will be complete by the start of the school year. This stimulus project includes the installation of sidewalk, curb, gutter, handicap ramps, signs, and striping adjacent to area schools in Pocatello and Chubbuck. Knife River is the general contractor. The total amount funded for this project is $755,160 ($76,000 for project development, $84,150 for construction engineering, and $595,010 for construction). There is no local match.
Construction will begin on Chubbuck Road, followed by S Bannock Highway and Cheyenne Ave adjacent to Indian Hills School, and finally handicap ramps will be installed on Memorial Dr and MLK Jr Dr at ISU.
