City of Pocatello Engineering Dept. to Host Walkability Discussions April 4

The City of Pocatello Engineering Department will host a slate of public discussions regarding walkability in the Gate City.

On April 4, department staff and representatives from Vitruvian Planning will host three informal meetings centered on the topic. Attendees will learn how to identify what makes a community walkable, how to lead a walk audit, how planning and design policies can impact walkability, and more.

“These discussions will help you understand the benefits of creating a more walkable city including health and wellness, economic, and universal mobility,” said Maggie Clark, Project Manager. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about this complex issue and understand what you can do to be an advocate for a more walkable Pocatello.”

The first session will be held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the City Council Chambers at Pocatello City Hall, 911 N. 7th Avenue, and focuses on the concepts and benefits of walkability. The first meeting is intended for local government officials as well as others involved in transportation issues in Pocatello.

The second meeting will also be held in the City Council Chambers from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will explain the economic benefits of walkability. This presentation is geared towards business owners and local service organizations.

The third session is for the public and focuses on how walkability can improve the quality of life for residents. This meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Pocatello Community Charter School, 995 S. Arthur Avenue.

Residents with questions about the sessions can contact Maggie Clark, Project Manager, at 208-234-6272.

City Hall and Pocatello Community Charter School are accessible to persons with disabilities. Program access accommodations may be provided with three (3) days’ advance notice by contacting Skyler Beebe at sbeebe@pocatello.us; 208.234.6248; or 5815 South 5th Avenue, Pocatello, ID.
