Summer Reading Programs Start June 1 at the Marshall Public Library

This year the Marshall Public Library’s summer reading programs are set to be out of this world.

The theme for 2019 is “A Universe of Stories” with events focused around space and exploration. Saturday, June 1, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., library staff will host the kickoff party for the full slate of activities scheduled during the summer months. Attendees at the celebration will be able to meet characters from the Star Wars films, have a taste of astronaut ice cream (while supplies last), and sign up for the summer reading program.

“Reading is for everyone, and libraries are for everyone. Combine the two, and you will create magic,” said Kathryn Poulter, Youth Services Librarian. “There are wonderful and exciting activities for all age levels.”

A list of already scheduled activities can be found at marshallpl.org. The list will be updated as events are added throughout the summer.

“Reading has been shown to benefit the health of the brain,” Poulter said. “For school-age children, simply reading during the summer will help keep students ready to learn when the time comes to return to school. For adult participants, reading will help stimulate the imagination and keep older brains healthy and strong.”
