The area’s greenest artists will be in the spotlight at the 2018 Portneuf Valley Environmental Fair.
Currently, organizers are seeking submissions for the poetry, recycled sculpture, and fashion show contests. The poetry contest is open to kindergarten through 12th-grade students and authors are asked to write and illustrate a 40-word poem on the theme “Dive into Marine Chemistry.” Sculptors looking to enter the recycled sculpture field are tasked with creating a piece using locally sourced, recycled materials. Fashion designers are being asked to design and model a clothing item or accessory out of recycled items. Both the sculpture and fashion show contests have the theme “Rethink, Reuse, Recycle” and are open to local 4th graders and older.
“This is a favorite part of the Environmental Fair for many people including me,” said Hannah Sanger, Science & Environment Administrator for the City of Pocatello. “The contests are a great way to contribute and share your own creativity and win some cash. Prizes in the past have gone to individuals who have made purses made out of Capri-Suns, and wedding dresses from tax papers, as well as to artists who made an incredible variety of recycled sculptures.”
Winners will receive cash prizes or gift certificates to local businesses.
