The Center Street Underpass took home the honors in a beauty pageant of sorts.
At Friday’s Pocatello-Chubbuck Chamber of the Commerce meeting, the organization presented the Beautification Award to Tom Kirkman, Deputy Public Works Director with the City of Pocatello, for the Street Operations Department’s work on the Center Street Underpass. The honor recognizes “an entity that makes a significant improvement to the exterior of a building or other physical structure or landscaping.”
“This project was made possible thanks to the Street Operations Department crews and many local companies who worked so hard to successfully complete this project on time and under budget,” said Kirkman. “It means a lot to have their efforts recognized in this way. I am honored to accept the Chamber Beautification Award for the work done to the Center Street Underpass.”
From August 6 to September 7, the underpass was closed while crews repaired the façade on the east and west sides of the structure, reconstructed the medians, upgraded the vehicle tunnel lights to light-emitting diodes, and recoated the pedestrian railings.
