The City of Pocatello Finance Department is earning the highest of praise from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
Recently, the department was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for their efforts on the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for Fiscal Year 2017 by GFOA. The accolade is the highest form of recognition in financial reporting and governmental accounting. Fiscal Year 2017 is the 14th consecutive year the department has earned the certificate.
“This award reflects the hard work of Finance staff to provide an accurate and consistent reporting of the City's financial activities,” said Joyce Stroschein, Chief Financial Officer.
The CAFR is judged by a panel and the report must demonstrate a “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the City’s financial story and encourage people to read the CAFR
And for the 13th year, the department was honored with the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting. The distinction highlights the City’s work on the Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR).
“Accounting can be difficult to understand for many people. What the PAFR does is takes the comprehensive figures and condenses them into a report that that clearly explains how the City accounts for its transactions,” Stroschein said.
The GFOA is a nonprofit, professional organization that serves nearly 19,000 government finance professionals.
