Pocatello Arts Council to Host Empty Bowls Fundraiser for The Idaho Foodbank Sept. 13

Empty bowls

September 13 can eat your meal out of a piece of art and support a good cause at the same time.

That Friday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Pocatello Arts Council will hold its first Empty Bowls fundraiser for The Idaho Foodbank at Westside Players, 1009 S. 2nd Avenue. At the event, attendees can enjoy a meal from a bowl of their choice. The bowls were painted by community members this summer at a Bowl Painting Party at the Portneuf Valley Farmer’s Market.

“Almost 15 percent of Bannock County’s residents are struggling with food insecurity, which is above the average of 1 in 8 individuals statewide,” said Jonna Boote, Development Coordinator for The Idaho Foodbank. “The Empty Bowls event is a wonderful way for people to engage with their local community and support their neighbors in need. We are honored to have partnered with the Pocatello Arts Council and Idaho State University’s Clay Club on this inaugural event. We also want to thank the local artists who lent their time and talent to create one-of-a-kind artisan bowls that will be available for purchase and auction during the event.”

At the fundraiser, the Pocatello Arts Council will honor Jason Bartosic as the Outstanding Performance Artist and Naomi Velazquez as the Outstanding Visual Artist for 2019. The night will also feature entertainment and raffles.

“The Pocatello Arts Council invites the community to come out and help raise money and awareness of hunger and food insecurity in Southeastern Idaho,” said Mark Cooper, Chair of the Pocatello Arts Council. “This is also an evening to celebrate and showcase the arts by honoring two talented local artists.”

Admission is $15 per person. A cash bar will also be available.
