The Holiday Season will be getting an early start in Pocatello this year.
Friday, November 16 at 9 a.m. at Pocatello City Hall, 911 N. 7th Avenue, citizens are invited to stop by and see the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree. A short program will feature remarks by Mayor Brian Blad as well as representatives from the U.S. Forest Service and Citizens Community Bank. Attendees will also be able to sign a banner that will accompany the tree on its journey to Washington D.C.
“I hope residents will plan to visit the tree during its stop in Pocatello, because you don’t want to miss the opportunity to see ‘The People’s Tree,’ ” said Mayor Brian Blad. “Our community has been fortunate to host the tree several times, and it’s always an amazing sight.”
Free hot chocolate, coffee, and treats will be available from Main Steam Coffee and Desserts. The U.S. Forest Service and the non-profit Choose Outdoors will be giving away small items and U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree merchandise will be available for purchase. Representatives from the Steven D. Merrell Marine Corps League Detachment #698, Southeast Idaho Toys for Tots Campaign and The Idaho Foodbank will also be there accepting donations of toys and food for those in need this holiday season.
The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree stop in Pocatello is sponsored by Citizens Community Bank.
The 2018 tree comes from the Willamette National Forest in Oregon. In celebration of the 175th anniversary of the Oregon Trail, the tree will follow a reverse path of the historic path. When the tree arrives in Washington D.C., it will be placed on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building for display.
